This band are impossible to pigeon-hole. Playing operatic-multi-genre-pop-metal they cover all potential bases. We blast through funk, hip hop, dark electro, RnB, soul, folk, rave and funk. And that's all in the space of one song...Mad as biscuits The Butterfly's four members shoot across the stage at every opportunity, making much fun and mockery in their outlandish outfits. Tonight their sound is a little rusty but you just can't fault The Butterfly for pure entertainment value...Absolute madness and at the same time absolute genius.

Captivating, enigmatic, enthralling and with an unexpected twist or seven punctuating every song, The Butterfly really are one band you can't afford to miss.
Drowned In Sound, November 2, 2006
The Butterfly are an altogether different proposition, confounding my expectations of what five sinewy men with their tops of are capable of producing by means of a set of fantastically off-kilter technical metal featuring wonderfully unpredictable song structures, playing as stringently tuneful as it is furiously tight and complex...

A truly dark carnival

Ahh the wonderful irony of The Butterfly, a name so soft and beautiful you image a wistful lady strumming a guitar or some such gentile what you get is a short sharp smack across the face as they bust onto the stage and promptly take over the venue. Their sense of grandeur on stage that reminded me of fellow Leedites (forgive meant to research the proper term but ran out of time), the wonderfully off the wall, Scaramanga Six....mixing up styles and influences from all out black metal to funk and even hints of Belle and Sebastian. This invention and intelligence along with a captivation live show which included the gladiator rousing ‘Contenders Ready…’ call and even a didgeridoo left the audience calling for more, if a little shell shocked.
Sandman Magazine, we love those guys.
